For my thesis for my final project, I am still deciding what I want to do. I am still thinking of many topics, such as love, intimacy, folklore, or fiction letter writing on television. I believe each of these topics can connect to the impacts that letter writing has and the connection, I just don’t know which one I want to research and write about.
I think the use of fictional letters in TV show moves is interesting because usually they are used to show gasp of the past or send a character a message, for example in Stranger Things in season 3 final El got a letter from her adoptive father that he wrote to her about how much he loves her. It was used to show their deep connection but put his perspective into place. Or like in the vampire show The Originals used to show letters to show character change in its charter Nikaus from the past till there present. I think these examples can be used to show that letters written in characters can help communicate to the audience how one feels about another, without imagery.
However, I do like the concept of folklore and how it can be used to communicate to its readers more so the direct communication of the letter lore. Instead of a direct letter writing style, it is more suitable for readers to depict its meaning and connection to reality. It also has the same impact as letter writing, such as the generation passed down. Letters are sometimes passed down from generation to generation, like folklore, it can be passed down by oral or in letters, being used as code or meaning to a higher understanding. Furthermore, I really like the folklore concepts because I think it would be interesting to see how folklore has impacted culture and family tradition through letters. However, I think the letters tv has more variety than the folklore.
